Labor Day Monday 9/7/20: DPW Garbage & Recycling Holiday Pickup Schedule

Please review your 2020 garbage & recycling pickup schedule calendar for the week of 9/7/20-9/11/20. The Borough is closed Monday 9/7/20 in observance of Labor Day.

All carts, vegetative waste, and bulk must be placed at the curb before 6:00am the day of pickup, but not sooner than 6:00pm the night before pickup.

The Recycling Center at 198 N. Washington Ave, behind the DPW building, is open regular hours (closed on holidays): Mon-Fri 8:00am-3:00pm, Sat 9:00am-1:00pm, Sun 1:00pm-4:00pm. Please see the back (pg. 2) of your 2020 garbage & recycling pickup schedule calendar for pictures and descriptions of the items that are accepted at the Recycling Center.

Mosquito Spraying 9/3/20

Bergen County Mosquito Control will be performing a truck-mounted spraying mission to control adult mosquitoes and larvae using Duet Adulticide and Vectobac WDG in Bergenfield on Thursday September 3.

This application will be performed between the hours of 4-6 AM. Please keep your windows closed and pets indoors during the operation. Also move your pets, their food, and water dishes inside during the ULV application. Additionally, bring clothing and children’s toys inside. Remain indoors with windows closed and with window air conditioners on non-vent (closed to the outside air) and window fans turned off during spraying. If you must remain outdoors, avoid direct contact with the spray. This operation is weather dependent and may be postponed until the next day. SUPERINTENDENT OF ELECTIONS NOTICE - VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR GENERAL ELECTION

VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR GENERAL ELECTION

Hackensack, NJ, August 27, 2020 - Bergen County Superintendent of Elections Patricia DiCostanzo issued a notice that Tuesday, October 13, 2020 is the last day for residents to register to vote for the November 3, 2020 Presidential General Election in the State of New Jersey. In order to be eligible to vote, a person must be an American Citizen, be 18 years old on or before November 3, 2020, and be a resident of New Jersey and Bergen County.

Bergen County residents may register to vote at the Office of the Superintendent of Elections, located at One Bergen County Plaza, Room 380, in Hackensack. In order to meet the needs of residents, this office will be open from 9:00AM to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, October 13, 2020. People may also register at their local municipal clerk’s office, hours vary.

In light of the coronavirus pandemic and Executive Order No. 177, ALL REGISTERED VOTERS WILL AUTOMATICALLY RECEIVE A VOTE-BY-MAIL BALLOT for the November 3, 2020 General Election. You may return your postage paid ballot via USPS or bring to one of 18 secured Vote by Mail Drop Boxes located throughout the County. You may contact the Board of Elections at 201-336-6230 or the Board of Elections website to locate a Drop Box near you.  

If you have a disability and need an accessible ballot, please contact (201) 336-7020 or you may go to your assigned polling place, which will provide access to an in-person accessible voting device on General Election Day. Should you choose not to vote on a Mail-In Ballot and show up to one of the limited number of Polling Places on Election Day, in you town only Provisional Paper Ballots will be available to cast your vote. The ADA compliant Voting Machine is only for voters who have a disability. Voters may also return their Vote by Mail in person to their consolidated polling place in their municipality. Voters will receive a post card notice prior to the election from the Bergen County Clerk which will indicate their consolidated polling place.

Superintendent DiCostanzo would like voters, already registered in Bergen County, to be aware of the procedures regarding late address changes within county.  If a voter has moved from one election district to another in the SAME town or has moved to another town in Bergen before November 3, 2020, please notify this office as soon as possible so that a Mail-In Ballot can be sent to you at your current address.  If you have any questions, please call 201-336-6110 for assistance.

The Bergen County Superintendent of Elections’ office is responsible for Voter Registration and all associated concerns, Issuing Voter Acknowledgement Cards, Maintaining Custody of Voting Machines and Poll Books, as well as other duties relating to the enforcement of elections laws as per NJSA Title 19.

On Tuesday, November 3rd, voters will cast ballots for President of the United States, US Senate, Congress, Freeholders, and local candidates. It is up to each and every American Citizen to exercise their right to vote.

UPDATE 8/31/20: Curbside Storm Debris Pickup from 8/4/20 Storm

As of 8/31/20, the DPW is no longer picking up piles of brush placed directly at the curb/on the street from the 8/4/20 storm.

As of 8/31/20, please cut into 4 ft lengths, bundle, and tie all branches, and please place leaves and other yard debris into paper bags or 32-gallon or less containers, in accordance with the vegetative waste pickup schedule guidelines.

Youth Recreation Basketball Tryouts Will Be Held August 30 and 31

The Bergenfield Recreation Department will be hosting youth basketball tryouts on Sunday, August 30 and Monday, August 31 at Memorial Field. The schedule for tryouts is as follows: 

Sunday 

  • Grades 3 and 4 - 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.
  • Grade 5 - 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. 
  • Grade 6 - 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
  • Grades 7 through 12 - 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. 

Monday 

  • Grades 3 and 4 - 4:00 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Grades 5 and 6 - 5:30 to 6:30 pm.
  • Grades 7 and 8 - 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
  • Grades 9 through 12 - 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Free Virtual Tutoring from the Library

The Bergenfield Public Library is excited to announce the launch of Brainfuse – on demand, anytime, anywhere eLearning for all ages and levels. Brainfuse offers personalized homework help in core subjects (math, reading, writing, science and social studies) including SAT preparation. Students communicate with live, online tutors using an interactive, virtual whiteboard to chat, write, draw, copy/paste text or images and graph homework problems. All live tutoring sessions are saved and can be replayed as well as shared with friends and teachers. 

 

Brainfuse is available to all library patrons from the public computers or from any computer with internet connection from 2pm-11pm 7 days a week.

 

The Writing Lab and the Send Question Center options give students the freedom to receive assistance at any time of the day without connecting with a live tutor. Users can submit papers through the Writing Lab for detailed feedback. The Send Question Center is for non-writing assignments such as math or science.

 

For adult learners, Brainfuse provides access to GED prep, U.S citizenship test prep, resume assistance, Microsoft Office support, and Career Resources which lists popular job search links. Microsoft Office support allows patrons to ask questions about Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

 

To use Brainfuse, all you need is your Bergenfield library card number. There is no limit to the number of tutoring sessions you can have. Spanish-speaking tutors are available for all subjects as well.

Information on the 2020 General Election - November 3, 2020

Pursuant to the Governor's Executive Order 177, the General Election will be conducted primarily by Vote by Mail on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.

  • All active voters will automatically receive a Vote by Mail ballot with prepaid return postage. The County will begin to mail ballots on or before October 5th.
  • Please note, there will be no sample ballots for this election. Instead, all active voters will receive notice with information such as the location of polling places and secured drop box locations.

Voted mail-in ballots may be returned by mail, in-person, or deposited into a secured drop box.

  • By Mail: Voted mail-in ballots will need to be postmarked by November 3rd and received by November 10th to be counted.
  • In-Person: Voters will be able to return their ballots in person to their designated polling place. Voters who visit the polling place on election day, and do not return a voted mail-in ballot, will be able to vote by Provisional Ballot. Accommodations will be made for voters with disabilities. Poll workers and voters in the polling places will be required to follow CDC guidelines.
  • Drop Box: Secured drop boxes will be located throughout the County.
