Bergenfield Police Department Participates in Bergen County Sheriff's Department “Chief for a Day” Program

BERGENFIELD, NJ -- The Bergenfield Police Department participated in the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department “Chief for a Day” program this Friday. Departments from throughout Bergen County participated in the program in which local children with chronic health conditions and special needs get a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement.

“The council and I are grateful for the work that our Police Department does every day to keep Bergenfield families safe and I applaud their commitment to building lasting relationships with our community,” said Mayor Amatorio. “The “Chief for a Day” program is a great chance for children with health conditions or special needs to see what a police officer does on a daily basis and get to know them on a more personal basis.”

Bergenfield Police selected Tristan Ramos, an 11 year old Bergenfield 5th grader who attends Lincoln School. Bergenfield Police picked up Tristan and his family at their home at 8am. He received a tour of BPD headquarters and all departments with their “Chief for a Day” participants gathered at the Bergen County Justice Center before taking part in a motorcade procession which ended at Van Saun Park where everyone took part in brunch.

“Our department participates in this program because it is a fantastic experience for the children that are going through a difficult time in their lives. The kids get to learn about what police officers do on a daily basis and they get to interact with other children that are also going through a difficult time,” said Chief Rabboh. “It is important that our department gets to know residents from a young age so that they feel safe and know that our officers are here to protect them.”
