Inserra Family Donates 180 Turkeys to Bergenfield Residents for Holiday Season

The Inserra Family, which owns and operates several ShopRite stroes throughout NJ, donated 180 turkeys to the Borough of Bergenfield to distribute to families in need this holiday season. Borough Administrator Corey Gallo picked up the donation from Ron Onorato, Presidents of Inserra ShopRite, on Friday morning. Larry Inserra, Chairman of Inserra Shop Rite and Bergen County Freeholder Tracy Zur were also in attendance. 

After receiving the donation, Mayor Arvin Amatorio distributed 30 of those turkeys to St. John’s Roman Catholic Church to help members of the congregation in need.  

Since Thanksgiving, the Inserra Family has donated over 10,000 turkeys to local community hunger relief partners.

Due to the large amount of snow expected to fall, garbage and recycling pickups for THURSDAY 12/17 have been SUSPENDEDThe NEW PICKUP DATE is SATURDAY 12/19, starting at 6:00am.

Friday 12/18 remains on schedule per the 2020 pickup schedule calendar for garbage and recycling pickups.

Garbage pickup in Quadrant 2 and Quadrant 4 has been suspended for Thursday 12/17. The NEW PICKUP DATE for garbage in Quadrant 2 and Quadrant 4 is SATURDAY 12/19, starting at 6:00am. Please do not put your garbage cart out until Friday afternoon if you are in Quadrant 2 or Quadrant 4.

Recycling pickup in Quadrant 3 has been suspended for Thursday 12/17. The NEW PICKUP DATE for recycling in Quadrant 3 is SATURDAY 12/19, starting at 6:00am. Please do not put your recycling cart out until Friday afternoon if you are in Quadrant 3.

Garbage pickup in Quadrant 1 and Quadrant 3 remains ON SCHEDULE for Friday 12/18, starting at 6:00am.

Recycling pickup in Quadrant 4 remains ON SCHEDULE for Friday 12/18, starting at 6:00am.

Please remember that there is no parking in the street when roads are snow covered.

Please remember that it is unlawful to shovel, blow, or otherwise move snow into the street.

Please remember to clear the snow off of your vehicle before driving it.

Please clear snow from fire hydrants on or near your property.

Bergenfield Residents Advised to Prepare For Significant Snowfall Wednesday

Bergenfield is expected to see a significant amount of snowfall beginning this Wednesday night, December 16. As of  today, forecasters are predicting 8 to 12 inches of snow in Bergenfield. 

Residents are reminded that street parking is prohibited when roads are snow covered and vehicles parked on the street during a snow emergency may be ticketed or towed. We ask that you please allow time for DPW to clear the roadway as they may need to pass a few times after the last snow falls in order to completely clear the roadway. As a reminder, it is unlawful to shovel snow onto the streets. If you have a fire hydrant on or near your property, please clean and keep this area free from snow.

Bergenfield Fire Department Hosting ‘Santa Run’ Through Borough on Saturday, December 12

Bergenfield Fire Department Engine Company #2 will be hosting a “Santa Run” this Saturday, December 12. Beginning at 1:00 p.m., the truck will make its way through the Borough with Santa on top of the truck waving to children and their families. With social distancing regulations in place, Santa will not be making any direct contact with residents this year, but will make short, public stops along the way.  

The schedule and route for event are as follows: 

  • Rear of Tommy Fox's - 1:00pm
  • Front of BHS - 1:30 p.m.
  • Memorial Park - 2:00 p.m.
  • Howard Drive & Georgian Court - 2:30 p.m.
  • Jefferson School - 3:15 p.m.
  • Staples - 3:45 p.m.

Each stop will be approximately 15 minutes.

Bergenfield Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Corp. Hosting Holiday Lights Parade on Sunday, December 20

The Bergenfield Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Corp. will be hosting a Holiday Lights Parade on Sunday, December 20. During this time, vehicles will be driving throughout the Borough decorated for the holidays with lights, sirens and other festive decor. The parade will include an appearance by Santa. 

The parade begins at 6:00 p.m. from the Prospect Fire House at corner of Prospect Avenue and West Clinton Avenue and continues as follows: 

  • Left onto New Bridge Road
  • Left onto Woodbine Street/Front Street 
  • Right over tracks to E. Main Street 
  • Left onto N. First 
  • Left on Hickory Avenue
  • Left on Washington Avenue
  • Right on E. Church over tracks 
  • Left on Prospect and ending at Prospect Fire House

Holiday Lights 2020 Flyer Public

Bergenfield to host Virtual Tree Lighting with holiday music from Cooper's Pond on Sunday, December 6 at 5:00PM

Keeping in accordance with the social distancing regulations in place, the Borough of Bergenfield will host its annual holiday celebration virtually this year. The event will be streamed live on Facebook and linked to the Borough's website this Sunday, December 6, at 5:00 p.m. and will include a tree lighting from Cooper’s Pond and holiday music.

Though celebrations look different this year, Bergenfield has actively worked to continue brightening the spirits and bringing holiday cheer to our community," said Mayor Arvin Amatorio. "We encourage all residents to join us virtually with their families on Saturday to enjoy an evening of music as we prepare to light our holiday tree in Cooper's Pond."

Please note that with outdoor gatherings limited to 25 people, residents are asked to watch the ceremony from their homes and will not be permitted to gather at the park. The event will begin at 5:00 p.m. and run for roughly 15 to 20 minutes. The live video can be found on the Borough's Facebook.
