During these hot days of summer, we have to be extra careful outside in the sun. The modern term for “heatstroke” or “sunstroke” is heat related illness. This occurs when a person’s body temperature rises to a dangerous level. I myself succumbed to this once during my younger years when I thought I was in terrific physical condition.Things that a person can do to prevent heat related illness are mostly common sense, such as staying indoors in the air conditioning, wearing lightweight/vented clothing, drinking extra water, taking frequent breaks when doing outdoor activities, or doing these activities during the cooler times of the day.

The 28th Annual National Night Out will be held on Tuesday, August 2nd, 5-9pm, at Memorial Park, sponsored by the Bergenfield Police Department, the Bergenfield Fire Department, and the Bergenfield Auxiliary Police, to promote cooperative, police-community crime prevention and public safety efforts.
The Bergenfield Police Department advises residents and motorists that starting Monday, Jun 13, 2011 at 7:00 am, the New Bridge Road railroad crossing will be closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic for repairs. The estimated time of closure is currently 3-5 days. The New Bridge Road railroad crossing will remain closed 24 hours a day until the repairs are completed.
Come meet representatives from the Bergenfield Health Department and the Municipal Drug/Alcohol Alliance at Family Fun Day this Sunday, June 12th! We will have two tables set up around the perimeter of the ball field from 1pm to 3pm. Joining us will also be a representative from Family Care for those families that qualify for low-cost medical care.
Once again, the Bergenfield Mayor and Council call upon all our organizations, large and small, to participate in the Memorial Day Parade to be held on Monday, May 30, 2011 at 2:30 p.m., rain or shine.
