Family Fun Day Sunday June 9th - Memorial Park

BERGENFIELD FAMILY FUN DAY

Memorial Park - Sunday June 9, 2013

(Rain Date Sunday, June 23rd)

 Bergenfield’s Annual Family Fun Day will be held on Sunday June 9th starting at 1pm and ending at the conclusion of the Fireworks Display.

 Family Fun Day is free to all Bergenfield residents and features;  1:00 pm – 6:00 pm: Free Rides, Free Cotton Candy, & Free Sno-Cones,6:30 pm – 9:00 pm: Music provided by a DJ

9:00 pm: Fireworks Display.  There will also be vendors available to purchase additional food/drinks

 Non-residents may also attend for $5.00 per person with a maximum charge of $30.00 per family

 Registration for residents will be held on the following Dates/Times in the Council Chambers on the 2nd floor of Borough Hall.

 1.      Wednesday, May 15th from 7pm – 9 pm

2.      Saturday, May 18th from 11 am to 1 pm

3.      Thursday, May 23rd from 7pm – 9 pm

4.      Sunday, June 2nd from 12 pm – 2 pm

 Everyone who plans to attend MUST register. If you cannot register at one of the pre-registration dates, you can register on the day of the event at Memorial Park. Proof of residency is required for residents.

 

Free Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar Screening this Weekend at the Bergenfield Library

Volunteers from the Philippine Nurses Association of New Jersey, Bergen County chapter, will be available at the Bergenfield Library on Saturday, May 4, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Sunday, May 5, 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. to do blood pressure and blood sugar screening.  Screening will be done in the lower level Friends Meeting Room.

*No charge and no appointments necessary.*

The Philippine Nurses Association of New Jersey is a non-profit professional organization of Filipino nurses established in 1976. A major goal of PNANJ is to organize and actively participate in community health programs relating to disease prevention and health promotion.

Prescription Drug Take-Bake Day April 27

The Bergenfield Police Department will be participating in the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its sixth opportunity in three years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Medications for disposal should be brought to Bergenfield Police Department headquarters at the borough hall, 198 N. Washington Ave. The service is free and anonymous; no questions are asked. 2013 Computers, Electronics, Tires & Document Shred Recycling Event

The Bergen County Utilities Authority  (BCUA) will hold the first of its four Computers, Electronics, Tires and Document Shredding Recycling events this Sunday April 21st – 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM rain or shine at Bergen Community College 400 Paramus Road, Paramus NJ. The event is for Bergen County residents only and it is free of charge. Residents can contact the BCUA environmental hotline at 201 807-5825 for additional information or visit the BCUA website at its website www.bcua.org.

Spring Reminders - Portable Basketball Hoops & Electronics

With the arrival of Spring,and the accompanying warmer temperatures, Bergenfield residents are reminded that the placement of stationary or portable basketball hoops within the Borough is regulated by Chapter 273 6(c) of the Borough Code. Stationary and/or portable basketball hoops are prohibited from being placed between the curb and the sidewalk, or on the street against the curb. Penalties for violations range from a Posted Notice to remove the stationary or portable basketball hoop within five (5) days up to a $500 fine. Please refer to the entire section of the code which is available online via the Borough’s website at www.bergenfieldboro.com. As the time for spring cleaning is here, residents are also reminded that due to N.J.S.A. 13:1E-99 the Borough’s DPW is no longer picking up Computers, Monitors and Televisions as trash or bulk. Residents can drop these items off at the DPW Recycling Center Monday – Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, Saturday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and Sunday from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. The Recycling center is closed on Holidays. Anyone with questions about recycling or bulk pick up can call the Dept. of Public Works at 201 387-4055 prompt # 3 (ext. 4088).

First Annual Mayor Tim Driscoll Bocce Tournament

The Bergenfield BocceLeague is pleased to announce the establishment of the First Annual Mayor Driscoll Bocce Tournament on Sunday, June 30 at 11 AM at the John A.Aversa Bocce Grove in Memorial Park. Under Mayor Driscoll's administration the bocce courts were renovated and an active league program was established through theBergenfield Recreation Department. The cost forparticipation in the Driscoll tournament is $ 10 per four person team plus the donation of two cans of food to the Bergenfield food pantry. Trophies will be given to the first, second and third place teams. Registrations form are available from Pat Scagliotti on the first floor of theBergenfield Municipal Building or by contacting Joe Scalora at 201 385 1355 or Bob Gallione at 201 421 6819.

FEMA Individual Disaster Assistance Deadline Extended

Trenton, NJ - The Christie Administration announced today that New Jersey residents impacted by Superstorm Sandy now have until April 1, 2013 to register for individual disaster assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The deadline extension applies for homeowner, renter, and business registration with the Small BusinessAdministration (SBA) for Disaster Loan Assistance, another important step in the disaster relief process to ensure survivors obtain all relief they are eligible for. People with storm losses in all counties can register online at www.disasterassistance.gov and via smart phone or tablet here. "This 30-day extension will help us ensure that anyone who has been affected by Sandy gets the help they need and deserve," said Governor Christie. "It's vitally important for peopleto know that the process of receiving any type of federal disaster assistance - including future grant assistance for homeowners and businesses - begins with registering as a disaster survivor with FEMA and working with a coordinator to determine eligibility for relief. I encourage those who have not yet registered with FEMA and SBA to do so now to get the relief they are entitled to and to ensure their eligibility for any future relief we can offer." It is crucial that individuals register with FEMA and that businesses and individuals complete the SBA loan application so State officials can continue to compile an accurate, comprehensive picture of the damage and the need for additional disaster recovery assistance. Moreover, for businesses, an SBA Disaster Loan represents the best opportunity for disaster assistance. There is no obligation to accept an SBA disaster home loan even after applying, but homeowners and renters may become eligible for additional assistance in the future. Of note, apart from the April 1 SBA Disaster Loan deadline for property damage, businesses also have until July 31 to apply for SBA economic injury disaster loans. All homeowners, renters, and businesses are encouraged to register with FEMA and SBA to ensure eligibility for future forms of aid. Survivors also can register by phone or 711/VRS by calling 800-621-3362, TTY800-462-7585. At the request of the State, FEMA extended the registration deadline another30 days due to the magnitude of the storm disaster. The disaster registration process serves as a referral point for FEMA programs and those of partner agencies such as the SBA, American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
