Bergenfield Breaks Ground on Twin Boro Fields Project

Construction began Tuesday on major upgrades and improvements to Twin Boro Field complex

BERGENFIELD, NJ --  The Borough of Bergenfield held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday for construction at the 25-acre Twin Boro Fields that is to include two artificial turf baseball/softball fields, an artificial turf soccer field, an artificial turf soccer/football field, sports lighting, field amenities, fencing, and stormwater management improvements. In attendance were Mayor Arvin Amatorio, Council President Buddy Deauna, Councilwoman Ora Kornbluth, Councilman Hernando Rivera, Councilman Tom Lodato, Councilman Rafael Marte, and Councilman  Marc Pascual.

“We are so excited to be able to get started on this project. We are committed to ensuring that the park will meet the needs of the people who live here and will become a beloved greenspace,” said Bergenfield Mayor Amatorio. “We have so much open space here that hasn’t been put to use in a way that is meaningful for residents and are eager to deliver a place to relax, exercise, play with their families, and meet their neighbors. The new and improved Twin Boro Fields will be a safe place for sports and play for all residents and visitors for many years to come."

Bergenfield received a $2.2 million grant towards construction and upgrades from New Jersey's Green Acres program, which helps fund projects that are protecting open spaces, and have provided funding for hundreds of outdoor recreational facilities in communities around the State. The new field will provide two lined soccer fields, with one also lined for baseball and one for football.

“Our goal has always been to make this a useful recreation complex for Bergenfield residents who deserve more open green spaces to enjoy outdoor time within their community,” said Council President Deauna. “Installing artificial turf fields also has the added benefit in a significantly lower cost of annual maintenance, which is a win for the Borough and residents across the board.”
