At its August 16, 2011 council meeting, the governing body of the Borough of Bergenfield passed a resolution expressing its support of the United States’ Senate resolution regarding coming together as a Nation and ceasing all work or other activity for a moment of remembrance beginning at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on September 11, 2011, in honor of the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks committed against the United States on September 11, 2001.
On the 10th anniversary of this tragic day in United States history, the governing body of the Borough of Bergenfield calls upon all of the people and institutions of the United States to observe a moment of remembrance on September 11, 2011, including media outlets; houses of worship; military organizations; veterans organizations; airlines; airports; railroads; sports teams; the Federal Government; State and local governments; police, fire, and other public institutions; educational institutions; businesses; and other public and private institutions.At 1:00 p.m. on Sunday September 11th, the Borough’s sirens will sound for one minute. All of our residents are encouraged to take time during that moment to stop and remember the almost 3,000 innocent people, including the more than 700 New Jersey residents, who were lost in the September 11th attacks.
Also on Sunday, September 11th, at 5:30 PM there will be “A Day of Remembrance” Liturgy at St. John the Evangelist Church. Immediately following the Liturgy there will be an escorted procession to Cooper’s Pond on West Church Street where a ceremony sponsored by The Garden Club of Bergenfield will be conducted. The starting time for the ceremony at Cooper’s Pond is anticipated to be at approximately 6:30 pm. Those people planning on attending the ceremony at Cooper’s Pond are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
