Borough of Bergenfield partners with Nixle to deliver instant e-mail and text messages to residents

The Borough of Bergenfield will utilize a new communications service, effective June 1, 2010, that allows us to send important, valuable community information directly to residents using the latest technology.

ImageThe Nixle Community Information Service allows us to create and publish messages to be delivered to subscribed residents instantly via cell phone text message and/or email. Notifications can also be accessed online at Nixle's web site at http://local.nixle.com/borough-of-bergenfield-nj.

Messages may include Storm Alerts, Missing Person Alerts, Emergency Road Closures as well as other relevant safety and community event information.

According to Bergenfield Borough Administrator Rick McGarril the ability to quickly disseminate important information directly to residents via, e-mail and cell phone text messaging is essential in today's technologically savvy world.

The service is reliable and free for our group to use.

The messages can be sent specifically to residents registered within a ¼ mile radius, giving them the opportunity to receive trustworthy information relevant only to their neighborhood. Residents decide from which local agencies they want to receive information. Subscribers can also choose the way in which alerts are received, whether it is by email, text message, or over the web.

There is NO spam and no hidden cost. Standard text messaging rates do apply.

Nixle builds on the foundations of other public-to-public communication services, such as Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace, but adds a key component: security. When citizens receive information from our agency via Nixle, they know it can be trusted.

"Nixle is a first-of-its-kind tool for communities that need to provide critical information to their residents," said Craig Mitnick, Founder and CEO. "In today's world, you have to trust the source of your information. Residents of Bergenfield can rest easy that the local messages they receive are authentic."

Residents of Bergenfield and those in neighboring communities can immediately begin receiving pertinent information via text message, email, and web by registering at www.nixle.com.

We are very excited to have you experience it for yourself.

Memorial Day Parade 2010

Once again, the Bergenfield Mayor and Council call upon all our organizations, large and small, to participate in the Memorial Day Parade to be held on Monday, May 31, 2010 at 2:00 p.m., rain or shine.

With military, civic, patriotic, fraternal, religious, youth, social, school, business and service organizations in the line of march – interspersed with floats and six to eight marching bands – our Annual Memorial Day Parade has become one of the best in the County.

General John A. Logan, commander-in-chief of the veterans’ group, the Grand Army of the Republic, made a formal proclamation designating May 30, 1868 as a day of remembrance of the nation’s war dead. The holiday was originally intended to honor the Civil War dead but unfortunately, that was not the last conflict that American soldiers lost their lives in, and after World War I, the holiday's purpose was expanded to include all Americans lost to war.  Memorial Day is a day for remembering "those who gave their last full measure of devotion" and to recognize all our veterans who have fought and are still fighting globally and have "saved the world".

If your organization would like to participate in our annual parade, please contact the Bergenfield Borough Clerk’s Office at 201 387-4055  Option 6 or Recreation Department at Ext. 1-4151.

Council President Robert Gillman, Chair
Joseph Scalora, Veterans Committee
John Scagliotti, Director of Recreation

NOTE: For your information, our parade route needed to be changed again this year because of the culvert reconstruction on New Bridge Road. We plan to assemble on West Church Street and proceed south on Prospect Avenue onto New Bridge Road passing the reviewing stand at Veterans Memorial Park. Lineup information will be forwarded to you prior to the date of the parade.
