2012 Borough of Bergenfield Memorial Day Events

paradeFIRE DEPARTMENT SERVICE & INSPECTION: 10 A.M.
VETERANS ALLIANCE SERVICE: 11 A.M.
PARADE: 2:30 P.M.

Once again, the Bergenfield Mayor and Council call upon all our residents to participate in the Memorial Day Events to be held on Monday, May 28,2012. In the morning at the Borough Hall, the Fire Department will conduct their Service and Inspection at 10 a.m., the Veterans Alliance Service will follow at 11 a.m., and the Annual Parade at 2:30 p.m., rain or shine.

The Parade will assemble on West Church Street and North Prospect Avenue, proceed south on Prospect Avenue onto New Bridge Road passing the reviewing stand at Veterans Memorial Park. Bands will include our great Bergenfield High School Marching Band, the R W Brown Middle School Band, Clan Na Vale Pipe Band and Tri Valley Pipe & Drums, Tappan Zee Bridgeman, the Waldwick Band and Fusion Core in addition to the Rusty Relics classic cars. With military, civic, patriotic, fraternal, religious, youth, social, school, business and service organizations, our parade has become one of the best in the county.

The holiday was originally intended to honor the Civil War dead but unfortunately, that was not the last conflict that American soldiers lost their lives in, and after World War I, the holiday's purpose was expanded to include all Americans lost to war. Memorial Day is a day for remembering "those who gave their last full measure of devotion" and to recognize all our veterans who have fought and are still fighting globally and have "saved the world".

If your organization would like to participate in our annual parade, please contact the Bergenfield Borough Clerk's Office at 201 387-4055 Option 6 or Recreation Department at Ext. 4151. Lineup information will be forwarded to all participants prior to the date of the parade.

Councilman Charles Steinel, Chair
