2012 Garbage/Recycling Calendar delayed

recycling logoDue to an error by the printer the Garbage/Recycling Calendar normally mailed to Bergenfield residents before the beginning of the New Year has been delayed. The printer is in the process of correcting the errors and the revised calendar is expected to be printed and mailed by the end of this week. Residents can expect to receive their 2012 Garbage/Recycling calendars by the middle of next week.

Basketball Backboard Removal – Bulk Pickup Dates

image of basketball hoopOn November 22, 2011 the Borough Council adopted ordinance 11-2445 which amended Chapter 273 of the Borough Code entitles "Streets and Sidewalks". The amendment includes a new section regulating the placement of stationary or portable basketball hoops:

"No property owner shall maintain a stationary or portable basketball hoop between the curb and the sidewalk or against the curb on the street or grass side overnight, or when the road is snow covered, or on refuge collection days or leaf collection days. If and in the event a property owner is found to be in violation of this requirement for a first offense, the property owner shall be notified by Posted Notice to remove the stationary or portable basketball hoop within five (5) days. Any subsequent offense shall require immediate removal. If said stationary, or portable basketball hoop, has not been removed, the Borough shall authorize its removal under the appropriate enforcement proceedings of this Chapter."

Penalties for violation of the amended ordinance shall subject the property owner to a fine of up to $500.00.

Residents who have a stationary, or portable basketball hoop, and no longer have a need for it can place the basketball hoop out for collection during bulk pickup days provided that the basketball hoop is broken down into three separate parts:

  1. Hoop/backboard
  2. Post
  3. Base - The base must empty (No sand, water, cement etc.)

Bulk Pickup dates for January 2012 are as follows:

  • Quadrant 1 – January 4th
  • Quadrant 2 – January 11th
  • Quadrant 3 – January 18th
  • Quadrant 4 – January 25th

Storm Debris & Leaf Pickup Update – Tuesday, December 20th

image of Bergenfield Borough HallThe DPW has now completed the first round of leaf pickup in approximately 85% of the Borough. The remaining 15% in Quadrant # 4 and Quadrant # 2 is expected to be completed before the end of the week.

In Quadrant #2 the DPW is will be working tomorrow through Friday in the following area(s); Williamson Road and the surrounding side streets, West Church Street to West Clinton Avenue between Prospect & Front.

In Quadrant # 4 the DPW is working tomorrow through Friday in the following area(s); New Bridge Rd. to West broad St, between Prospect & Woodbine, and West Clinton to West Broad St between Prospect and Front St.

The goal is to complete at least one leaf pickup in all four Quadrants by Friday December 23rd.

Residents, and their landscapers, are again asked to get their leaves out to the curb before the DPW makes it first pass. Do not place any branches into the street where the DPW has previously made its initial pickup.

Regular Street Sweeping continues to be cancelled as the one driver has been re-assigned to a bucket loader to assist with the storm debris cleanup and the other driver, and street sweeper, is re-assigned to work with a leaf pickup crew. Normal Street Sweeping operations will not resume until the roadways have been cleared of both storm-related debris and leaves.

Additional information on garbage collection cancellations will also be distributed via Nixle, Twitter and Reverse 911 calls. Leaf Pickup Update – Friday, December 16th

The DPW is currently picking up leaves in both Quadrant # 4 and Quadrant # 2.

In Quadrant #4 the DPW is currently working in the following area(s); south of West Clinton, north of Dudley Dr. and west of Prospect Ave towards the New Milford Border. They will also be clearing the area of Melrose Ave, Wildrose Ave, Lake St, Broad St. and Anderson Ave either today or Monday.

In Quadrant # 2 the DPW is working to clear the main roads, i.e. Prospect Ave, River Edge Road, Graphic Blvd, West Church St, West Central Ave, Franklin Ave before moving into the side streets.

The goal is to complete at least one leaf pickup in all four Quadrants by Friday December 23rd.

Residents, and their landscapers, are again asked to get their leaves out to the curb before the DPW makes it first pass. Do not place any branches into the street where the DPW has previously made its initial pickup.

Today December 16th is the last time garbage pickup will be cancelled for leaf collection.

Recycling will be picked up on its normal schedule. Only garbage pickup is cancelled on the 16th.

Residents, and their landscapers, are again asked to get their leaves out to the curb before the DPW makes it first pass.

Regular Street Sweeping continues to be cancelled as the one driver has been re-assigned to a bucket loader to assist with the storm debris cleanup and the other driver, and street sweeper, is re-assigned to work with a leaf pickup crew. Normal Street Sweeping operations will not resume until the roadways have been cleared of both storm-related debris and leaves.

Garbage pickup will be cancelled again on Thursday December 15th and Friday December 16th to allow for DPW personnel to concentrate on Leaf and branch cleanup.

The 15th and 16th will be the last time garbage pickup will be cancelled for leaf collection.

Recycling will be picked up on its normal schedule. Only garbage pickup is cancelled on the 15th and the 16th.

The DPW is continuing to remove branches and brush that was placed at the curb after the DPW had made its original pickup debris left in the wake of the October storm.

Regular Street Sweeping continues to be cancelled as the one driver has been re-assigned to a bucket loader to assist with the storm debris cleanup and the other driver, and street sweeper, is re-assigned to work with a leaf pickup crew. image of Bergenfield Borough HallThe DPW has completed it first sweep through the Borough to remove branches and brush from the October storm. It is now starting to remove debris that was placed at the curb after the DPW had made its original pickup.

Leaf collection is expected to be completed in Quadrant # 1 today. The DPW will begin leaf collection in Quadrant # 3 either this afternoon or Monday 5th. We expect to begin picking up leaves in Quadrant # 4 and Quadrant # 2 by the end of next week. The goal is to complete at least one leaf pickup in all four Quadrants by Friday, December  16th.

Residents, and their landscapers, are requested to get their leaves out to the curb before the DPW makes it first pass.
