VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR PRIMARY ELECTION

 Hackensack, NJ, June 2, 2020 - Bergen County Superintendent of Elections Patricia DiCostanzo issued a notice that Tuesday, June 16, 2020, is the last day for residents to register to vote for the July 7, 2020, Primary Election in the State of New Jersey. In order to be eligible to vote, a person must be an American Citizen, be 18 years old on or before July 7, 2020, and be a resident of New Jersey and Bergen County by June 16, 2020.

Bergen County residents may register to vote at the Office of the Superintendent of Elections, located at One Bergen County Plaza, Room 380, in Hackensack. In order to meet the needs of residents, this office will be open from 9:00AM to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, June 16, 2020. People may also register at their local municipal clerk’s office, hours vary.

In light of the coronavirus pandemic and Executive Order No. 144, ALL DEMOCRATIC AND REPUBLICAN REGISTERED VOTERS WILL AUTOMATICALLY RECEIVE A VOTE-BY-MAIL BALLOT for the July 7, 2020 Primary Election. If an Unaffiliated or Inactive Status Voter would like to participate in the Primary they should complete and return the Vote-by-Mail Application that will be sent to them.

If you have a disability and need an accessible ballot, please contact (201) 336-7020 or you may go to your assigned polling place, which will provide access to an in-person accessible voting device on Primary Election Day. Should you choose not to vote on a Mail-In Ballot and show up to one of the limited number of Polling Places on Election Day, only Provisional Paper Ballots will be available to cast your vote. The ADA compliant Voting Machine is only for voters who have a disability.

Superintendent DiCostanzo would like voters, already registered in Bergen County, to be aware of the procedures regarding late address changes within county. If a voter has moved from one election district to another in the SAME town or has moved to another town in Bergen before Tuesday, July 7, 2020, please notify this office as soon as possible so that a Mail-In Ballot or an application can be sent to you. The Bergen County Superintendent of Elections’ office is responsible for Voter Registration and all associated concerns, Issuing Voter Acknowledgement Cards, Maintaining Custody of Voting Machines and Poll Books, as well as other duties relating to the enforcement of elections laws as per NJSA Tile 19.

On Tuesday, July 7th, voters will cast ballots for their party candidates for President of the United States, US Senate, Congress, Freeholders, and local candidates. It is up to each and every American Citizen to exercise their right to vote.

The Borough of Bergenfield is working to develop a lasting partnership with the nonprofit Table to Table, which provides those in need with fresh produce. Earlier this week, the Borough received its first donation from the nonprofit, and food was distributed to dozens of families on Tuesday afternoon. The COVID-19 pandemic has had devastating financial impacts and Bergenfield has been working tirelessly to ensure no family is left without food to put on their tables.

“Each of us has been affected in one way or another by the global health crisis, but the selflessness and compassion that has been shown to those in need is truly inspiring,” said Mayor Arvin Amatorio. “We have seen countless residents, business owners, and organizations step up to the plate to help those in their time of need and I am incredibly grateful for their generosity. It is actions like these that should remind us all why we are proud to call Bergenfield home.”

The Borough’s food bank has also served as a lifeline for residents during the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to operate at VFW Post 6467 (321 S. Washington Avenue). Donations are still being accepted; nonperishable food can be brought directly at the VFW and monetary donations can be dropped off at Borough Hall. Table to Table is a Hasbrouck Heights-based food rescue organization that provides perishable goods to those in need and the Borough is working to expand its relationship with a nonprofit based on need and availability.

Several local grocery stores have also donated to the Food Bank, including American Pinoy Food Mart, Ramz Oriental Food Mart, Mi Tienda Carniceria, Lidl Supermarket and Sariling Atin Grill and Supermarket. Sariling Atin in particular has shown tremendous generosity, making three donations totaling over $5,000 in goods. 

“Over the past two and a half months, our community has come together to support our neighbors in more ways than ever before,” said Councilman Hernando Rivera. “No individual should ever go hungry and we’ve been working hard to address the growing concern of food insecurity within the Borough. We remain committed to keeping our food bank open to those in need and look forward to establishing a longer runner partnership with Table to Table.”
