Bergenfield Ramps Up Efforts to Stock Community Food Banks During COVID-19 Pandemic

Bergenfield has a group of dedicated volunteers who operate community food banks and as the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to bring hardships to countless families, these organizations are taking on the task of assisting even more individuals. Many residents have graciously stepped in to help feed more families, but the supplies at local food banks are beginning to run low.

“The COVID-19 pandemic not only has all of us worrying about our health and safety, it has countless individuals unsure of how they will be able to financially support their families or where their next meal will come from,” said Mayor Arvin Amatorio. “Our local food banks have always served as a critical lifeline for our community, I’m asking anyone who may have the means to assist in this time of crisis to consider donating to our efforts to restock our food banks.”

Bergenfield operates a food bank year round, but a temporary program has also been established to help those who need additional assistance during the pandemic.

Donations of nonperishable food, fresh produce, personal health kits, PPE, homemade masks and monetary contributions are being accepted at VFW Post 6467 (321 S. Washington Avenue) between 7:30 a.m and 6:00 p.m. You may also contact the Borough Administration at 201-387-4055 ext. 6 to arrange for someone to pick up your donation.
