  1. 6/27: Washington Ave closed 4pm-11pm for outdoor dining.
  2. Borough parks are open for passive recreation only. Playgrounds and contact sports are not permitted in parks as per NJ Executive Order.
  3. Boro Hall open weekdays 9am-3pm by appointment only.
  4. Overnight Parking allowed until July 6.

Primary Election Day Information - July 7, 2020

Primary Election Day is next Tuesday, July 7th. In light of the coronavirus pandemic and Executive Order No. 144, ALL DEMOCRATIC AND REPUBLICAN REGISTERED VOTERS WILL AUTOMATICALLY RECEIVE A VOTE-BY-MAIL BALLOT for the Primary Election. If an Unaffiliated or Inactive Voter would like to participate in the Primary, they should complete and return the Vote-by-Mail Application that will be sent to them. If you have any questions pertaining to the Vote By Mail ballot, please contact 201-336-7020.

If you want to participate in the Primary Election, use the Mail-in Ballot and prepaid postage envelope that has been issued to you. Mailed Ballots must be postmarked no later than 8:00 p.m. on July 7, 2020. The deadline for delivering your ballot in-person to the Board of Elections, or placing it in one of the secure drop boxes is 8:00 p.m. on July 7, 2020.

Ballot Drop Boxes Locations

Ballot Drop Boxes are available 24-hours.  Ballots must be in the Drop Box by 8:00 p.m. on election night.  Ballot Drop Boxes can be found outside in the following locations: 

  • Demarest - 118 Serpentine Road (Borough Hall) 
  • Fort Lee - 1355 Inwood Terrace/Anderson Avenue Circular Driveway (Fort Lee Community Center) 
  • Hackensack - One Bergen County Plaza (County Administration Building) 
  • Ramsey - 30 Wyckoff Avenue (Library - in rear of building) 
  • Ridgewood - 131 North Maple Avenue (Village Hall) 
  • Rutherford - 176 Park Avenue (Borough Hall) 

Polling Locations

Three polling locations will be open in Bergenfield on Primary Election day.  Each polling location will have one (1) voting machine. Please note, the voting machine is only for voters with disabilities who need the accessible voting device.  Should you choose not to vote on the Mail-in Ballot and visit a polling place on Primary Election day, you will only be able to cast your vote using a Provisional Paper Ballot.  The following polling locations will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on July 7th for the designated districts: 

  • Borough Hall - Council Chamber (Districts 1,2,3,4,16 & 17) 
  • Roy W. Brown Middle School - Room 45 (Districts 5,6,7,8,9) 
  • Lincoln School - Room 117 (Districts 10,11,12,13,14,15)

Independence Day (Observed) Friday 7/3/20: DPW Garbage & Recycling Holiday Pickup Schedule

Please review your 2020 garbage & recycling pickup schedule calendar for the week of 6/29/20-7/3/20. The Borough is closed Friday 7/3/20 in observance of Independence Day.

PLEASE NOTE: Bulk garbage pickup is on schedule for July 2020. Bulk day pickup in your quadrant is listed on the calendar with the letter "B" in July.

All carts, vegetative waste, and bulk must be placed at the curb before 6:00am the day of pickup, but not sooner than 6:00pm the night before pickup.

The Recycling Center at 198 N. Washington Ave, behind the DPW building, is open regular hours (closed on holidays): Mon-Fri 8:00am-3:00pm, Sat 9:00am-1:00pm, Sun 1:00pm-4:00pm. Please see the back (pg. 2) of your 2020 garbage & recycling pickup schedule calendar for pictures and descriptions of the items that are accepted at the Recycling Center.

* On 6/18 there were 938 reported cases. On 6/19 6 cases were removed from the list after discovering duplicate results, making the total 932. On 6/22, 4 new cases were discovered making the total 936.

The Borough of Bergenfield has a contactless drop-off Recycling Center!

Hours: Mon-Fri 8:00AM-3:00PM / Sat 9:00AM-1:00PM / Sun 1:00PM-4:00PM (Closed on Holidays)

Location: 198 N. Washington Ave, behind the DPW building (the DPW building is the building behind Borough Hall)

Containers at the Recycling Center are labeled - please separate your recyclable items & place them in the proper container.

ONLY these recyclable items are accepted at the Recycling Center (clean, empty & dry):

  • gable-topped cartons
  • paper, including shredded paper (shredded paper does NOT go in the recycling carts)
  • newspaper, magazines, junk mail (NO plastic window envelopes)
  • cardboard (flattened)

  • plastics (with #1, #2 & #5 ONLY)

At the Recycling Center, ONLY the following (7) types of electronics are accepted:
